The little insurgent

N. Lygeros

To Gavroche

He did not know where to return except the streets
since detested by a pimp and a tart.
He did not gather with his fellow brothers
because they had become strangers.
He was but a kid of the enormous city,
a fault of the crude and the vile.
He could not be innocent
like all the other children.
So he became the smallest of the righteous
in order to rebel against the society of injustice.
