Translated from Greek by Athina Kehagias

When we did a Topostrategic and Chronostrategic Master Class in Erikousa in 2013 and in Othonoi in 2015, where we highlighted the EEZ issue at a Regional level, the treatment was proportional to the encounter of the third kind, whereas Sagan’s contact seemed dream-like.
Consequently, with the first licensing round in 2014 a historic change didn’t occur, since the people were neither prepared nor informed, and because we had then entered a strange ideological phase which wanted to reject everything because we had a change in government which couldn’t do the same actions which it considered unacceptable when it was in the opposition.
So we then had to wait for the third Minister of Energy to produce the task that the two previous ones didn’t.
In 2014, 20 marine blocks were issued, and we had candidacies only for 1,2 and 10, due to these problems.
Therefore, even though the lectures regarding the Greek EEZ, where more and more, they remained unsustainable at a practical level until 2017.
We now observe the justification arriving for the Ionian Sea as well, with this new area touching upon the previous 4.5 and 6 marine blocks.
It arrives to fill a gap between blocks 1.2 and 10.
Now we can see a real future with the energy in the Ionian Sea.
This practically means that all we teach in Masterclasses are not only theoretical and mathematical, they are also strategic issues which draw the path for the future of Greece and its directly related Regions to the underwater reserves.
The Greek EEZ is a vision which is slowly being utilized, thanks to the marine blocks and the marine regions.
It simultaneously however becomes an increasingly powerful tool for the geopolitical position of our country both within the European Union and in the Eastern Mediterranean as well.
So this ought to also be enhanced institutionally.
We have said and explained it at Kastellorizo in 2011, at Gavdos in 2012, at Erikousa in 2013, at Agathonisi in 2014, at Othonoi in 2015, at Psara in 2016.
That’s what we’ll do at Leipsoi in 2017.
Because this battle has an impact towards the proclamation of the Greek EEZ and of course its demarcations.
As it offers other potentials for the future because it is based upon the energy and strategy and not merely politics and economy.
The EEZ is more fundamental to the country.
Now there are more and more who are beginning to realize that fact, but even alone we will continue to the end and even further.
