The EEZ is more humane than the continental shelf. With the requirement of economic activity, it activates the human one as well. For this reason, the inhabited island has by definition an economic activity. The mere existence of people, ensures the existence of the EEZ. While this does not apply in the case of the continental shelf. This difference makes the difference for our Kastellorizian cluster. All of the islands are important in this cluster, because each has something to contribute to the rest, and all together help our country to have this endless blue, which connects it with Cyprus and allows the European Union to have a coherent EEZ in the Eastern Mediterranean.
This however means, that we really need to take care of our own people in these areas, which for obvious reasons are disputed by Turkey. In other words, its not enough for us to be preoccupied only with the land, we must also pay attention to our people. And this can not happen in a passive manner, otherwise we will have a museum like result. At Kastellorizo, is not enough for us to remember the past. What’s substancial is to strengthen the future with it.
In this context it is easy for us to understand that the school, needs not only active support, but also presence, so that our own people could actually see that we are here with them, especially in these crucial days. People need people and they must feel that they are really wanted, because of relations and not because of interest, otherwise the future will have an expiry date. In any case, its human activities which also produce these economic activities. Consequently , we should focus on actions, in order to be together with our people, so that they have names that touch us.
And thereon, the economic activity will be determined . Therefore, we will eat together the fish caught by one of ours in our own EEZ, and or, we will ride together along the endless blue. Human relationships could be the weakest institutions, but are the strongest bonds and its them that we realy need . The platanaceae exists even without trees, because there are people, but why shouldn’t we plant new trees for the people? These details, when combined, they produce a timeless project which supports the future, due to the values it promotes. The economic worth, without human value is just a price that has no value.
