85575 - The gift of the past

N. Lygeros

The choice was made in New York.
And I mean with that
that I bought a violin in this town.
It was an act of serendipity.
The strings were always in my heart
as for many people.
The cello is so close to the human voice
that it’s impossible to be not touched by its sound.
It came from the viola da gamba.
And the violin came from the viola da braccio.
The violin dates back to the 16th century
and that’s the reason
that I consider it as a gift of the past.
The present violin has more or less
the design made by Gasparo da Salo
and of course Nicolo Amati.
Its shape survived with only a few minor changes.
And this is almost incredible.
I was also impressed by its scroll
which has a mathematical shape
and of course its F holes.
The pegs fixed on the peg box belong to the core
as the fingerboard and the neck.
I love the sound post which is called
the soul in French.
