14126 - The interconnection between Crete and Cyprus

N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias

If someone heard of, without knowing about it,that there will be a connection between Crete and Cyprus, he would simply say that, that is inconceivable. If he heard that it is an electrical interconnection, he would say that it is unrealistic. If furthermore he was imformed about the EuroAsian Interconnector, he would say that, that is a vision. If he is further informed that the European Union will subsidize this project, then he would ask, when will it occur, because thereon, it will be just a matter of time.
If he also understood that this is done within the context of the Exclusive Economic Zone, then he would realize that this strategic plan is the next reality and he would think of how he could now exploit this factor without assuming it a technological miracle, but a strategic innovation instead. If he now combined all the elements together, he would understand that he is following a diachronic horizontal strategy within the Mediterranean, which is now based on the energy of the sea, while the supply of the electric cord will occur with the combustion of the methane found in deposits in Greece Cyprus and Israel .
This practically means that the interconnection between Crete and Cyprus is not just a technicality, but an indication of the scope of the venture as a whole. In this field we can therefore build more with the hydrocarbon law as it acts in a fashion that enhances the regions. Crete could become HUB for Greece and the Aegean islands in particular. This new supply will allow a better consumption of energy which would offer better quality of life.
At this level, the use of zeolite can be combined also for both islands, especially when the mining of the Greek zeolite begins, as it would supply both countries. In this way there would be another interconnection between Crete and Cyprus due to our Thrace. If someone has the ability to see this big picture, then he will understand that the future began.
