17553 - European support of EuroAsia Interconnector

The European support of the EuroAsian Interconnector, does no longer feature only as a Project of Common Interests but also in practice. Now that the program passes through the advanced phase, following the Commission’s decision, its support is no longer monetary, more specifically the EuroAsia Interconnector had asked from the European Union the granting of around 1.325.000 € and recently the claim was accepted. This practically means that the overall structure is now clearly embedded in the European context. It’s no longer a task of a tripartite consortium at the level of Greece, Cyprus and Israel, but a complete proposal at European level. This demonstrates the value of the project, but also the strategic planning. Also in this way we know that the benefits are indeed enormous.
It would be sufficient to only calculate the sustainability of the cable which is around fifty years and to take into account that the project pays itself off, in just four years. These data demonstrates that the whole context is correct and effective, since the economic benefits show that sustainability is substantial, and not only a theoretical model.
The EuroAsia Interconnector is not only a geostratigic plan, but also a geo-economic one, which is changing the data of the entire Eastern Mediterranean region. These evident elements, are coming to justify the contrivers of the initial design, who foresaw the next reality when most thought that nothing will ever occur even at a tripartite level.
