Many wonder why we in Greece, are so supportive of the Cypriot EEZ, while we ourselves have not yet declared our EEZ and we have not started the demarcations, even with States that are positive towards us. The explanation is simple.
Firstly, Cyprus has official and declared sovereignty rights, because of its actions within the Law of the Sea, which of course is compatible with the international law.
Secondly, Cyprus belongs to Hellenism,therefore, we have a duty to support her, when a just claim is applied.
Thirdly, Cyprus belongs to the European Union and it is our duty to have an active defense in this context, between Member – States.
Fourthly, our EEZs, have a point of contact, which practically means, due to the existence of our hydrocarbons, that direct communication between us is important, since it affects the LNG ships, the EuroAsia Interconnector, the East – Med pipeline.
Fifth, every step taken by Cyprus through her EEZ, is also a step for Greece as well, since she will follow it in due time. In this context, the engagement of Greece in the Cypriot EEZ, is an investment for the Greek EEZ. Therefore, what occurs, is an even more fundamental factor, since it regards the liberation of Cyprus from the servitude of barbarism.
Τhe dual EEZ of Hellenism is not merely an economic context, where only economic measures are active, but also an action field, which allows long range strategic operations, as it supports the great strategy of Hellenism. Therefore, our steps, even at a confrontational level, follow a strategic behaviour, which makes sense towards the game theory, as we have already passed into the field of decision theory and the reason is simple. The dual EEZ of Hellenism, runs through the space of topostrategy, at chronostrategic time. In other words, it is perfectly compatible with our needs, due to the option: Freedom or Death.
Therefore, we should not analyze the situation in a simplistic, passive fashion, which inevitably causes frustration to anyone who is scrutinizing it.
On the contrary, integrated into all this way of thinking, strategic mental schemes appear, which are durable and effective, as they are functional in depth of time. The dual EEZ of Hellenism, is not just a technical detail, but the largest EEZ in the Mediterranean, therefore, the simplistic approaches is only wise to be avoided, so that we become prepared and are at a readiness phase for the foreseeable future.
