18396 - Νational choices

Translated from the Greek by Athina Kehagias

We often forget that the context of the elections, constitutes the action field of our choices. It’s not enough to have an opinion about everything, and especially regarding issues which we don’t comprehend, and at the last moment, to do exactly the same move as previously at the ballot box. The problem is that we often examine only local problems because these are the more easily accessible. Therefore, we are under the impression that the parliamentary elections are merely local ones. What’s worst still, is that this impression is reinforced by the MPs themselves, who behave as if their voters are merely a clientele. The explanation re: the above, is that most of them do not obtain any information in regards to national matters and they prefer to remain at low level debatιing. Whereas, our nation is not an anonymous mass who is indifferent to everything. Visiting a simple kafeneion is enough to let us listen to our own discussing, shouting, arguing, laughing and fighting on issues such as the Cypriot problem, the protection of Thrace, the safety of the Dodecanese, the Greek Exclusive economic Zone, the Casus Belli, the hydrocarbons, the EuroAsian Interconnector. Therefore, the problem is simple as well. Many candidates get involved in totally meaningless issues on the grounds that that’s what concern us. Whereas in actual fact the Greeks intertemporally are dealing with the national ones. This may be attributed to the timelessness of Hellenism which is not affected by the problems of everydayness, as it opts to live through the continuum of Time. For this reason, all candidates who artificially and typically are dealing with national issues, through their actions it’s quickly obvious that they obtain no skills. That’s why we now have national options.
