18535 - EEZ and Peloponnese
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
The EEZ is not a single national entity, it has also consequences on a regional level. And the best proof, is the Hydrocarbon Law, which foresees, that 5% of the Greek earnings, goes directly to the Region. We all talk about the Ionian Sea plots – which are 10 – and those south of Crete – which are 9 – but we must not forget the marine plot 11 of the Peloponnese Region.
Considering the value of even one plot, such as plot 12 of the EEZ of Cyprus, we can imagine the implications of this existence.
So, in the Peloponnese, where there is already a great action in regards to the zeolite, because of the cultivation of olive trees, since we have the most recognized extra virgin olive oil, now we can add the EEZ issue, not only in a theoretical way, but with a practical one as well, with free Mani, as it’s called by mr, H. Konofagos and mrs, T. Fokianou.
So we must observe, that the developments which take place on an international level, due to the negotiations and agreements achieved by Greece in order to create an alliance context which shields diplomacy and makes our strategy more resistant, create a positive action field for the Peloponnese and the Region.
It is important for the Peloponnese, for us to know that there are prospects because of this as well, which practically means that the Region should start thinking about its strategic development, with this factor also, otherwise it would be to no avail, because the phase change it’s causing, is radical
Therefore, let us think about it outside the political party context, and let us prepare ourselves to be ready at the Peloponnese level also, in order to continue the tasks of the Revolution.
