18704 - Do not disturb my marine plots

N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias

The twenty marine plots of the Greek EEZ, are an innovation just by their very existence alone. Because it is difficult for someone to comprehend, that Greece obtains these marine plots without yet having an EEZ de jure, and yet, it managed to have them recognized by all 28 member states of the European Union as Greek.
For this reason we must be very careful in making statements concerning the issue, as it also regards the international licensing round, from which we expect large scale applications from oil companies, in exactly the same manner as it occourred in the case of Cyprus.
Meanwhile, there is yet another licensing round regarding the areas of Ioannina, Patra and Katakolo, only they have no geopolitical dimensions, since they don’t belong to the Greek EEZ, whereas, the twenty marine plots are not only positioned in the Greek EEZ, but many of them are in direct contact with the middle line of Albania, Italy and Libya.
In fact, some of them are in the FIR of Tirana, Brindizi, Roma, Malta, Tripoli, Cairo and this indicates their range, not only as a surface but also as a position in the geopolitical chessboard.
Therefore, to state that we are about to fiddle with those 20, directly or indirectly through a review, which basically means a cancellation, is not only unacceptable in regards to the whole effort, but also dangerous for our country. Because they are already connected with the future of Greece, as they utilize our enddless blue, which we obtain because of our Greek EEZ.
