When the President of Turkey states that, he ignores the decisions taken by the European Parliament on the Armenian genocide due to the 100 year anniversary, this in fact emits another message. Because quite simply, when you are really indifferent, you don’t in fact declare that indifference.
We know that, he was disturbed by the clear statements of the Pope, who left no doubt about the name issue, having used the word Genocide and no other expression, even that of, “crimes against humanity” which does not specifically characterize or correctly depicts the meaning of Genocide.
In actual fact, the statement of the President of Turkey indicates that, the European Union, to which his country is a candidate for future accession, is increasingly bothering him with its decisions, especially those related to human rights. Because in due time these decisions are transformed into European acquis, for which we know Turkey’s point of view.
The Armenian Genocide is not only a symbolic anniversary, but a reality that continues hurting Humanity, since Turkey has not yet recognized her crime.
The decisions which will be taken by the European Union are compatible with the recent decisions of Greece re: criminalization of the denial of recognized Genocides.
