Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
If we realize that a few decades ago we considered, in practical terms, the Eastern Mediterranean as a whole, void of hydrocarbons, eventhough we had already at hand geological evidence of their existence, then we can make an analogy with the data regarding the region South of Crete.
Before the Leviathan discovery in 2010 ,and that of Zohr in 2015, we did not take into account the possibility that there were giant and hypergigantic reserves in the region. While there were of course already researches and even intensified ones in the EEZ of Egypt.
Without of course taking into account, the karst limestone model, which changes the data radically with the drillings.
It’s enough to examine the density of the presence of the companies in the region, in order to understand that they had prospects even prior.
The fact that BP, IEOC, TOTAL, ENI, EDISON are all located in the region and even multiple times over, gives the indicative value of the expectation.
But now, with the discovery of the hypergigantic reserve Zohr, all the companies have activated the program, with an emphasis on the new model.
So if we take into account the fact that South of Crete we have the analogue situation, those who have a vision for the future of Greece, could understand what our prospects are there, and how the situation will change in the coming years in the region, as we will see there as well, an analogous density of companies.
Of course, we are forced to wait, for the comprehension ability of the “competent” and official personnel to mature, since by then, they would have virtually seen what is occurring everywhere within the Eastern Mediterranean, and then, the competent Ministry, without phobias and dogmatism may pass on to the next phase in regards to the hydrocarbon exploitation through the research and mining.
