21716 - The identities of Western Armenia

N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias

More and more are the people of Armenian descent who foster the identity of Western Armenia, because they perceive that it is a practical way to pay respect not only to the lives, but also to the existence of their genocided ancestors.
Each identity of Western Armenia is a tangible act of resistance against the oblivion of barbarism.
And now we see that the Pontians as well have began to become informed and to obtain the first identity documents of the region, because they as well have the same rights, as the descendants not only of people of the region, but also as citizens of Western Armenia.
Therefore, a vision that was born in 1919 during the discussions in Paris, and which became a reality with Wilson’s Plan, now acquires flesh and bones, with the identity document where the official flag is featured.
And because it is the government of Western Armenia who is issuing this identity document, all who are fighters are able to understand the importance of this action which causes a phase change.
Therefore, all those who consider that the festivities are not enough in order for them to comprehent what it means to be a Pontian, they obtain this identity document, which is already recognized by the United Nations Palace in Geneva, where the Western Armenian delegation has already attended many times over.
In this manner we can understand that Western Armenia is the future of Pontos even at a practical level.
And for all those who never assume that, that will occur some day, they find now to be the most appropriate period to talk about the one hundred years from the genocide . Whereas, we don’t only glance at the past, but also at the future of the nation.
