21862 - Ministries of Foreign Affairs and EEZ

Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
We are now entering a new phase in regards to the EEZ issue, and many of course will say that it was about time, as even the Foreign Ministries are now getting involved in both Greece and Cyprus regarding the issue of the tripartite with Egypt, and even further, they are now openly promoting the demarcation of our EEZ. It is no longer an aberrational issue as they characterized it previously.
Now at an official level they all admit, that we are getting prepared for this important and unprecedented for Greece fact, as the only agreement we have at hand so far, is that of 1977 with Italy, re: the continental shelf issue, which by the way has not yet turned into an EEZ agreement.
The explanation regarding all these movements is certainly not of strategic nature, as they are all waiting for the reality of the hypergigantic Zohr reserve to occur in order to progress the procedures which they have initiated at a diplomatic level, without actually believing in them.
All the data had to change at a scientific level, in order for them to merely make the next step.
Simultaneously, we all see that the dynamics of the case in actual fact derive from Egypt, and the rest simply follow the stream, without taking real initiatives.
They have simply been pressured, but not convinced, that this timing is good.
In any case, that been the situation of the new data, we must utilize them appropriately, so that we wouldn’t end up with results similar to those regarding the lisencing round for the twenty marine plots, in which case, with the constant change of opinions, we ended up with only three nominations, although, it was going to be the largest lisencing round ever organized by Greece, and in an official European context at that.
Simply the irrelevance of some is unlimited, and unfortunately we saw that in practice.
The good thing about the demarcations of the EEZ’s, is that there are more “competents” involved from various ministries, and of course from different fields, therefore, even through a Nash equilibrium, a rational solution can be found, and for this reason we are expecting positive outcomes.
