23051 - When we are unaccustomed to a certain sector, then we ought to write history in regards to it
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
In a field such as hydrocarbons, where both Greece and Cyprus do not obtain a tradition, we ought to write history, in order to be able to alter the given data, so that we can have prospects for the future.
The point is, that most are not convinced even now, that the EEZ belongs to the future of Hellenism, and they are under the impression, in the best case, that it’s all about a technical issue which does not concern them either substantively, nor as a matter of fact.
This approach is certainly wrong, and it simultaneously delays the developments of the whole situation.
That’s because most are dealing with other issues which are secondary in range, and which don’t produce neither history, nor a future.
We, through Education should slowly learn that the EEZ and the hydrocarbons obtain such great dynamics, and as a result they inevitably constitute an innovation even in the workforce sector.
Therefore, as far as the workforce is concerned, there should be a serious updating, and at many and various levels at that, in order to sufficiently address all the fields of interest.
In actual fact, we need to follow what occurred in the Cypriot universities, where we now have Bachelor, Master and PhD related directly with this issue.
But in a more general context, there are many workshops, which function around the EEZ and the hydrocarbons related matters.
Consequently, we should gradually write the history of the field, which will constitute thereon a tradition for Hellenism.
Therefore, scholarship is a necessary approach in order for this knowledge to be founded, and which will be capable to configure a reality.
We must simply decide, not merely as a society, but as Hellenism, that we will play an important role at an international level.
