23535 - An issue of trust

N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias

When you are during negotiations and they are constantly trying to explain to you, that you must trust the others, then you must be wondering why does it occur in such an intense manner.
Because if it is indeed the truth, then why is the whole issue taking place, when there’s an existing positive context to work on?
And if it’s not the truth, what is the purpose of this disinformation?
This attitude is quite typical when it comes to dealing with the matters of resolving the Cypriot issue.
In other words, while we see that there is an intolerance on the one side, there is an artificial pretense on the other.
In actual fact, we all comprehend, that all this, it’s regarding movements which are more connected with politics and more specifically internal ones, rather than strategy and especially with a national range.
More and more increasingly, it’s obvious that there isn’t a serious effort made in order to solve the Cypriot issue, because quite simply the necessary ingredients for that to occur are missing.
But there is material which makes it obvious that something is being done, and that the positive context in search of, obtains the ability to convince voters that something is happening, in order for them to continue to vote in exactly the same fashion.
Therefore, the question of confidence and trust, is concerning our own structure and not the negotiations context.
If we keep that in mind we are not going to result into any serious mistakes.
If however not, we are within the framework of a political trap, which can have effects which far outweigh the partisanly benefits and which endanger Cyprus’s progress altogether.
