26243 - The might of Agia Sophia
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Vicky Baklessi
The might of Agia Sophia within Constantinople doesn’t derive only from the past. The fact that it hasn’t died after so many centuries of occupation, constitutes a miracle. Also the fact that it is enclosed within a state which committed genocides and continues to stand up is admirable. And if they have hurt her with the awful minarets, she knows that they are temporary and that we will not allow them to remain. As far as the internal decoration they have put on her, it only has the weight of emptiness and it will be removed at the time of liberation. So we have to see our church as a beacon which enlightens everyone and no one enlightens it: With this notion it constitutes the essence. So it is necessary to have with you the prayer that Christ taught us when you go through her threshold. And if you cannot say it out loud, give your strength to silence but say the prayer because it is how she sees that the faithful didn’t forget after so many centuries. And that indifference and oblivion don’t work on our love for the sacred. Therefore prepare for the change without fear so that you’ll be with us on the first liturgy.
