26839 - The Cypriot liquefaction plant
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
One of the third licensing rounds very positive consequences in regards to the Cypriot EEZ, is the enhancement of the possibility for the establishment of a natural gas liquefaction plant in Cyprus.
We’ve heard many times over, that the reserves of Cyprus can not currently support its existence on their own.
But the third licensing round and the great success on the part of candidate companies, proves that this present is over and that the future has already begun.
Simply only a few experts see it, while the rest are waiting for the developments to occur.
The fact that we are now also searching for reserves located in geological structures with karstic limestone, has changed the data as simply, the Cypriot EEZ as well contains deposits of this type, which is the case re: the hypergigantic Zohr reserve within the Egyptian EEZ.
Cyprus was able to emerge from the memorandum thanks to a mentality which gave ground to strategy and energy.
The next step would be for the construction of a terminal to take place, which will require 4,500 people for its completion, and around 100,000 for its function, in conjunction with, both the mining platforms and the necessary cables.
The European Union, America, Israel and Lebanon are all positive towards this program.
We can therefore see that the utilisation of the Cypriot EEZ offers new opportunities following the third licensing round.
And consequently, initiatives must be taken at the political level as well in Cyprus, far beyond political party differences, because it is regarding a wider range national issue.
Therefore, all those who didn’t believe that Cyprus or even Greece obtained anything, they need to change their position re: the matter, or else they are doomed to be surpassed by shear reality.
