27022 - Guerguerat and its symbolism

N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias

Guerguerat is located in Oued ed Dahab-Lagouira, and it’s not exactly a strategic point in military terms, but nevertheless it’s not lacking symbolism, due to its close proximity to Mauritania’s borders.
That’s more so, in the sense of an access point to the southern provinces, which is necessary in order to maintain control, so as to avoid the creation of a crucial point.
The current operations in the region constitute a necessity for the safety of the people, as they are occurring in order to regain an effective control of the situation, remaining therefore within the context provided by Minurso.
The international rules are bound to be respected, disregarding the low level propaganda which is trying in vain, and with light and not so pure manners to impose a continuous process.
Therefore the symbolism moves along the spirit of the royal speech, which while insisting on a phase change regarding the reintegration of Morocco within the African Union, it remains clear re: its commitment to the southern provinces.
