27324 - SOCAR’s unacceptable proposal
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
Not only SOCAR doesn’t belong to companies which aim to invest in Europe, but on the contrary, it simply wants to enter a market which it considers an unfriendly one, because it’s constituted by Christians, and so it’s insisting on purchasing DESFA in a simply unacceptable manner, merely because they assume that they can pressure us as they feel that we are weak, due to the government which is unable to put its foot down in order to resist effectively.
But we see that in general terms, SOCAR is not a reliable ally or partner, because quite simply it doesn’t believe in Europe’s ideals let alone those of Greece.
It merely aims to be on both sides, in order to control the market even better.
That’s how it functioned in the cases of other countries as well, without any mercy.
So let’s stop the excuses and stop hiding behind the institutions which in actual fact are non-existent.
The deal would’ve reached conclusion without a problem whatsoever, if it wasn’t for the European Union’s regulations concerning the European percentage.
And as SOCAR failed to surmount that “obstacle”, it’s now trying to reduce by two, the bid regarding the purchase of DESFA.
This is sufficient enough in itself to indicate that it doesn’t believe in its worth.
We must therefore openly resist, and if we really want to help our homeland now that we can see that we are proceeding with the EEZ issue through the demarcations of the Greek EEZ with the Egyptian one, and now that we are preparing for the utilization of our marine plots in both the Ionian Sea, and south of Crete, only a good idea it’s not, to actually sell to foreigners who don’t even belong to the European Union, the actual network which will constitute a part of our future.
