29040 - The example of Cyprus

Translated from the Greek by Athina Kehagias

When we have Monarchists and Venizelians who dare say that they did something regarding Cyprus, and they even include it in their resume, what could we say, and how could we evaluate them one would say, but history does exist. Cyprus has been occupied ever since 1571. Her situation will only change with the Berlin Treaty in 1878, which will change her status, since it would thereon belong to Great Britain. Thereon, in actual fact nothing happens with the Lausanne Treaty in 1923, since Articles 20 and 21 which specifically concern her, where never implemented. Whereas its implementation would have prevented any Cypriot occupational issue. Thereafter, because the Monarchists and the Venizelians were never able to find a common ground, followed the events of 1958 and 1959 of the Cypriots, leading up to the 1960 Zurich-London Treaty, which immediately and directly faced practical problems which actually became obvious in 1963. Later on, with the same problems again, Turkey takes advantage of the situation and actuates the invasion in 1974, undisturbed in actual fact, because on the other hand the army had substantially been mutilated and dismembered at a level of armaments. And at this point of time, Cyprus still has occupied territories, missing people, enclaved people and refugees. So where are the Monarchists and Venizelians who helped them?
