The EuroAfrica Interconnector which will connect Cyprus with Egypt has officially begun its journey and comes to enhance the EuroAsia Interconnector which connects Israel with Cyprus and Cyprus with Greece. In this manner Cyprus is no longer merely a link of a chain but a triple contact point. Consequently, all those who didn’t believe that the EuroAsia Interconnector will eventuate, and now see with their very eyes how its planning has developed, they should prepare themselves mentally with this new interconnector, which evolves from the EEZ’s of Cyprus and Egypt in order to support an even wider range network which gives other potentials. Now it’s not regarding a pointless debate about the small and the large Interconnection which made our beloved Virginia weary. On the contrary it’s regarding two large Interconnections which allow for three continents to Interconnect, nothing less. And the fact that Egypt comes to play in this game, which in 2015 discovered the hypergigantic natural gas deposit Zohr, is indicative in itself of the value of the entire initiative. The EuroAfrica Interconnector is been prepared for a long now. The official one however begins now.
Consequently in the Eastern Mediterranean we don’t only have the hydrocarbon reserve discoveries, but transnational Interconnections as well. At this point it is good to remember how much all these projects owe to the notion of the EEZ from the beginning.
Therefore, EuroAfrica will utilize the 2003 EEZ demarcation agreement between Cyprus and Egypt. This new innovation is indicative of how important are the moves which become actions, and in actual fact concern Israel, Egypt, Cyprus, Crete and Attica.
