31298 - Crete’s strategic future.

Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
Crete’s strategic future, not only as an island, but specifically as a region of Greece, is situated in the South due to the Greek EEZ.
Surely the existence of the nine marine blocks constitute a serious indication, since they were dissected by the seismic surveys of the Norwegian company PGS, a fact which means that we obtain target-reserves there.
Additionally, based upon the data of the hypergigantic Zohr reserve discovery in the Egyptian EEZ, as well as the target-reserve located within marine block 11 of the Cypriot EEZ, more and more can see that there are similar reserves South of Crete and more specifically within the marine blocks already delineated.
This in actual fact means that Crete, which will constitute a passage for the EastMed natural gas pipeline, as well as for the EuroAsia Interconnector electric cable, would also simultaneously be a source of energy.
Which means that the exploitation of the region is inevitable.
And it would be wise for Cretans who own blocks of land in Southern Crete, and which they see only as crag, not to sell them out at any price, because that’s where the future lies.
Therefore, Regional Crete should continue to actively inform the Cretans, in order for them to be aware that at some point of time they will in fact see the creation of an LNG terminal station, which will in turn provide one hundred thousand job positions due to the requirements of its functions.
