33101 - In the dark library
N. Lygeros
Translated from Greek by Athina Kehagias
In the dark library we’ve sat at the table that they’ve pointed out to us, always silent.
The light wasn’t switched on, and we needed to find the socket in order to activate the two lamps.
We were waiting for them to bring us the two books of the past without knowing what exactly we’ll find in them.
Because the Serendipity phenomenon always followed us upon every mission we’ve accomplished in order to find Carathéodory’s papers.
When therefore they brought us the books we were surprised again, because we had assumed that they would have been articles, whereas one of the two had been incorporated in the Osiris magazine.
It was the article entitled: The beginning of Research in the Calculus of Variations.
In that manner, we’ve simultaneously discovered both an article of great historical value, but also a magazine which writes history.
