33382 - The Cypriot EEZ’s energean issue

Translated from Greek by Athina Kehagias
After all that we’ve heard about the factitious solution of the Cypriot issue, which would’ve occurred unilaterally, while the discussant was decisevely against it, finally the truth was officially revealed and we saw that there wasn’t in fact any serious strategy whatsoever.
Besides, it was initially agreed upon, that at no stage of the negotiations would there be interference in regards to the energean issue.
Simultaneously, the entire process of the third licensing round continued on, and of course, the continuation of the second round as well.
Consequently, the developments through the Cypriot EEZ were not affected in the least by the revelations of the reality of the negotiations.
A fact which goes to show that in the energean sector, Cyprus didn’t waste any time whatsoever, because she didn’t delay the West Capella that would perform the drilling for Total and Eni as well in marine block 11 of the Cypriot EEZ.
Consequently, even though we can see that Turkey remains intransigent, the course of the Cypriot issue continues because of the activities of the Cypriot EEZ, which is proving to be a dominant tool for Cyprus.
Additionally, due to the presence of enormous oil companies within the Cypriot EEZ, the geopolitical chessboard has changed, and Cyprus can play alongside players who don’t waist time with details of a localistic character.
Therefore Cyprus, besides the European context which is undouptfully positive towards it, it has the support of oil companies such as Eni, Kogas, Noble, Delek, Total, and Exxon Mobil, not forgetting Qatar Petroleum .
And they are been active in marine blocks 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
So in actual fact, Cyprus has placed strong players upon the chessboard which she created in 2004, with the rejection of the Annan Plan, as well as its accession to the European Union, as right after, it declared the Cypriot EEZ, and began its course with the three demarcation agreements involving, Egypt, Libya and Israel.
Therefore, Turkey arrives too late attempting to play a meaningless role, because the window for any energean interventions has been closed for a long time now.
Consequently, the energean issue is the element of the Cypriot EEZ which constitutes the spearhead towards the solution of the Cypriot issue, through the liberation of the region from the barbarians of the invasion.
