For Greece and more specifically for the Ionian Region, the signatures regarding marine block 2 of the Greek EEZ, with Total, Edison and Hellenic Petroleum, are historic.
It’s the first time in its history that Greece produces a project of this magnitude which goes beyond its territory because Greece has finally decided to utilize its sovereign rights.
It’s additionally a way of establishing a strategic relationship with both France and Italy, in an region which comes into contact with Italy’s EEZ, where Pyrros reserve is situated, located just above the demarcation line.
Within this particular marine block 2 however, there is of course an even larger reserve.
More precisely speaking, the Achilles reserve is even better known to us due to the seismic studies carried out by the Norwegian company PGS back in 2013, which as a result led up to the creation of the marine blocks in 2014,
These signatures are also important for the Regional Ionian because they will also at a practical level activate the Hydrocarbons Act, which establishes that fact that 5% of the Greek State’s associated earnings would belong to the Region at which the hydrocarbon reserves are located.
Consequently with these signatures we’re experiencing historic moments which in turn create prospects for the future which only few had been able to perceive prior.
However now, it’s all about a perceivable reality by all Greeks and especially the inhabitants of the Ionian.
