47433 - The EastMed Act constitutes a law of the USA
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athina Kehagias
Following the initiatives of the Congress and the Senate, came the President’s turn to sign the EastMed Act, and for that to become a USA law.
With the signing of the general government budget, the entire process cycle came to an end.
And this result is unprecedented.
Because even if there were objections from the President’s side, it was merely re: the issue of congressional jurisdiction in regards to foreign policy, and especially military aid and participation in international forums, so nothing has changed in actual fact.
Therefore, the substance of the bill has not been affected, as it constitutes a section of the budget.
It is the proof that USA foreign policy has changed in regards to the Eastern Mediterranean, and it now officially appears that it is no longer betting upon the unreliable Turkey.
Additionally, the fact that the American oil company Exxon Mobil which is located both in the Cypriot EEZ, at marine block 10 with Qatar Petroleum, as well as at marine regions West of Crete and Southwest of Crete, with Total and Hellenic Petroleum, has enhanced the entire context through the energean sector which is combined with the high strategy of the USA.
