50148 - The old recipe
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athina Kehagias
In the fireplace a soup gave a pleasant smell.
We searched for its ingredients.
And we found that it was based
upon the taste of garlic…
It had within, besides the four cloves,
a tablespoon of olive oil,
butter and cheese,
two egg yolks,
salt pepper
and some very fine pasta elements.
It was ready, and we dared without permission
to try it, as if it was prepared for us from prior.
As if it was waiting for us.
And of course it wasn’t supposed to get cold.
Its simplicity touched us through its taste.
And when we’ve finished
as we were sitting next to the fireplace
we’ve brought some musical instruments
in order to continue our study
within the joy of the century.
The organs of science
got our attention later on
when we began our calculations.
