With the beginning of the implementation of the 2014 Agreement between Cyprus and the United Kingdom, the liberation of the regions under the British Bases status is in actual fact initiated, and that is why we are experiencing historic moments after 60 years.
Because ever since 1960 that changes only now in 2020.
This implementation will affect three municipalities: Ypsonas, Kato Polemidia and Deryneia, but additionally 16 districts: Asomatos, Trachoni, Kolossi, Erimi, Sotira, Paramali, Avdimou, Akrotiri, Pyla, Ormidia, Xylotymbou, Xylofagou, Frenarou, Avgorou, Acheritou and Achna.
This Agreement provides for a full restoration of the rights of the residents and the property owners
As a result, 1800 hectares of land are extricated.
In this manner the iurban zone changes as well.
Such change had not occurred ever since the founding of the Republic of Cyprus.
There is a strategic study regarding environmental impacts associated with the Development Plan.
There will be a 35-day public consultation about that issue.
In order to comprehend the magnitude of that change, it will concern the 12,000 people who reside there.
Consequently, this implementation will affect Cyprus on a humane level as well, since the Cypriots who for so many years could not function in the same context as all of the free Cyprus will finally be justified.
It in fact constitutes therefore an initiatin of the liberation of Cyprus even in this context alone
