The expansion of the territorial waters, ie the adaptation to the 1982 Law of the Sea, occurs throughout the entire territory.
The transition from 6NM to 12NM is a full-scale process, because it concerns the entire state.
In actual fact, this process clarifies the baselines from which the EEZ is then on calculated.
This expansion constitutes a strategic move which provokes an action that leaves an institutional trace.
In Greece’s case, this step is even more important due to the war situation that Turkey has raised, if Greece goes ahead with it.
Besides, Turkey has made it clear that the Casus Belli concerns any area of ​​the Greek state.
Therefore, if we make the decision of the expansion to the 12NM, then we ought to do it undividedly, in order to be entirely within the context of the 1982 Law of the Sea.
After all, even a partial expansion would activate the case of war as far as Turkey is concerned.
It makes therefore sense, to examine this expansion strategically and not tactically.
A tactical thought is doomed toward problem confrontation.
This is regarding a national and not a political party issue.
We are not interested in political parties when they make a mistake which has national consequences.
The only thing that is proper, is of course for the extension to
12NM to occur, because Greece is entitled to it, due to the 1982 Law of the Sea. This extension however, ought to be total.
The same applies to the establishment of the EEZ, which ought to occur in total.
Whereas the delimitations are occurring with each country and not all of them together.
