58702 - The silent collapse of Casus Belli

Translated from the Greek by Athina Kehagias

With the expansion to the 12 NM in the Ionian sea, without most in both Greece and Turkey realizing it, has initiated the collapse of the Casus Belli imposed by Turkey in 1995.
Back then, when Greece ratified the Law of the Sea, which it had signed in 1982, Turkey was irritated and resulted in this unacceptable move in order to make Greece fearful of its barbarism.
It had not however contemplated that the EEZ issue would act catalytically as an effective counterattack toward the Turkish Casus Belli.
We relied upon strategic actions such as the East Med Pipeline Agreement, the delimitation of the EEZ with Italy, and the partial delimitation of the EEZ with Egypt, in order to move on to the Ionian sea expansion as a first step, and to already be preparing the next, with the expansion in Crete.
Consequently, the notion of Casus Belli has not merely been restricted, but also degenerated due to the counterattack of Hellenism.
Of course, Turkey is incompetent to officially accept it within its own country, but it already accepts it as an official event at an international level.
