The meditation is a kind of prayer when you don’t know to whom you should direct a request. The meditation, for that reason, is also possible without the awakening. So you have to go further and in reality beyond meditation if you want your salvation after your liberation. The self-understanding can’t be complete without any teaching. Even a set of techniques can’t be an art and even less a faith. There is a bigger need that’s why we can find in ancient texts, cosmology, epistemology, philosophy and worship. It’s a way to attain sixfold desires. That’s why the Master is a necessity.
