397 - In the depths of the horizon
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Angeliki Papadopoulou, Evi Charitidou
My Thessaloniki
was at first a sound of Tsitsanis,
an old and beautiful memory
even before I had faced it
and when it was pinned in my gaze
with the simplicity of a Byzantine picture
I saw
the hanging walls bathed in the Macedonian sun
watching the blue horizon vertically
and upon the borders of Romiosyne
the castle of memory,
the white tower.
