85576 - Carl, the violin.
N. Lygeros
I give to my violin the name Carl.
It’s a reference to Carlo
which is the name of its designer
but it’s also a duty to Carlo Michelstaedter.
It had of course also a bow
with its characteristic frog.
The violin has the same strings as the mandolin
and this compatibility is precious
as I already have a kerman mandolin.
So I have to work with G, D, A, E.
And they are useful as open strings
even if you want to play
at Pierrot’s door
with the open D and A.
It’s of course more interesting
when you start to play G, F# and E
on the D string.
Because it’s also the starting point
for the shaping of the left hand
like in the lift off and the essential elements.
All this is done of course only with pizzicato
because it’s too early
for the shaping of the right hand
as we need the bow.
