95828 - The depth of Grand Strategy
N. Lygeros
It’s certainly not obvious to see that specific cases like Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Panama but it’s a fact that all of them belong to the Grans Strategy of the US and consequently of the NATO. So, when we hear about them even in an arrogant manner we have to take care of those situations to avoid bigger problems in the future of this Cold War II. The goal of this kind of war is always the same and it’s different of a classical war. Because the Cold War II is to avoid the WWIII so it’s not only a question of victory. For example, a victory in a Cold War II which conducts to a World War will be a failure. It would be a victory at the strategic level but a failure at the level of Grand Strategy. That’s why it’s important to realize its depth and to avoid to consider those different cases as independent facts. By the way, Greenland had a huge importance in the Cold War. And we have to remember that Alaska was Russian and was sold to the USA by the Russian Empire to avoid any conflict with the British Empire via Canada. At least, it’s crucial to never forget that the Panama Canal was American until 1999 due to the Treaty of 1977. And it’s easy to imagine that it can be a target of China as Greenland can be a target of Russia. In conclusion, even strange breaking news can be in reality waves of the same ocean when we are ready to analyze them in the big chessboard as virtual battlefields of the Grand Strategy.
