Translated from the Greek by Athina Kehagias
After the discovery of the Calypso reserve by the Italian company Eni within marine block 6 of the Cypriot EEZ, Total’s interest in cooperation with Eni was greatly enhanced.
Additionally, due to the geological continuity between the 6, 7 and 8 marine blocks, this consortium was in a priority list in regards to the third licensing round of Cyprus, which concerned marine block 7 exclusively.
And the consortium proved as a matter of fact its interest in the agreement which it is now on the way with the Republic of Cyprus.
At this point of time, the Eni and Total consortium functions in marine blocks 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 and 11, ie, it constitutes the largest player within the Cypriot EEZ.
Additionally though, this player also cooperates with Exxon Mobil, which is at marine block 10.
In this strategic manner, both France and Italy come to reinforce the Republic of Cyprus, without of course paying any attention to Turkey’s thuggeries and bravados, who is desperately trying in vain play a role, upon the energean chessboard of the Eastern Mediterranean.
However, USA, France and Italy, in cooperation of course with Israel, Korea, Qatar and the United Kingdom, have decided to play themselves the leading role for the entire region, and that’s why they’ve signed contracts with Cyprus exclusively, and are now extend towards Greece.
Consequently we have an energean and strategic response to Turkey’s irrational moves, and there is no need for anything more to be said, otherwise, we’ll be following the propaganda and not observe the future.
