The Hydrocarbon and Mining National Service, as the officially responsible department has at several times published explotation permits in favour of the Italian oil company ENI.
Eni is indeed by 40% the beneficiary of the Rabat Deep Offshore I-VI explotation licenses, as well as by 70% of the permits of coastal El Jadida.
The Eni company is therefore preparing to utilize target reserves in the Atlantic Ocean Moroccan shores, located in theTarfaya offshore Shallow I-XII zone, near the cities of Sidi Ifni, Tan-ans and Tarfaya.
The extent of the permits is equal to 23900 km². As far as the depth of the water is concerned, it about 1000 meters.
In this manner, Eni enhances her presence in Morocco but more generally in Maghreb and in North Africa since it’s already actively functioning in Algeria, in Libya and in Egypt.
This is in correspondence with the concept of expanding the researching in Cyprus where ENI is situated in marine blocks 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 and 11.
Additionally, in marine block 6 of the Cypriot EEZ, it recently discovered the Calypso reserve, which is twice as large as the Aphrodite reserve on marine block 12.
It’s regarding an exploration of course, and not just an exploitation as in the case of Morocco, but it is already an enormous advance, since the latter is an additional element of attraction for such a large oil company.
Consequently we ought to expect strategic results.
