32452 - The garden of innocence
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
Which one of you would believe
what we lived through that year?
Nobody within the garden of innocence
expected that miracle.
We all played on and thought
that the world would always remain like this.
And every day that passed by
we lived with our dreams.
The colours were our life
and the sky our light.
But we knew nothing
about the past and the future.
We couldn’t see Time
we merely lived through the epoches.
Nobody had written history
upon our petals
The sun moistened us with light
and we weren’t afraid of the night.
We were the stars of the earth
when beauty shines.
And so we were surprised
by the storm which brought the rain.
Because we’ve learned about those
who cut the flowers.
And our eyes were tearful
for the first time just like the clouds
We didn’t know what to do
and so we felt the loneliness.
We prayed all together
and with all our might.
And we were waiting in the rain
when our light arrived.
